My overreacting mom saw on the news that any X-box made before October 2003 can "catch fire at any time if it's plugged in". Now they've made me pack up my X-box into it's original box and they're making me send it back to Microsoft for a replacement. I think i'm going to have them committed.

Tell them to think of the insurance money if all your belongings are destroyed.

You could buy so many "safe" Xboxes with that kind of dough.

For extra safety you should switch to PS2.

Anything can catch fire when plugged in, so for safety's sake, unplug everything before you leave the house, including lights, Tivo, and the fridge. Even if you're just walking to the mailbox. Can't be too careful.

Yeah, I already got a PS2, i traded in a bunch of my old crap and I got it for practically nothing. I only bought it so I could get my Final Fantasy fix and Play FFX and FFX-2 and all my old PS games. I'm waiting until the summer to get San Andreas tho, but I hear by then it'll be out on X-box with new stuff and better graphics so I figure what the hell.

Of course, you could just go to Xbox.com and sign up for a replacement power cord instead of paying $150+ shipping on the Xbox to send it back to MS.

All is not lost. You can have a lot of fun with this. Just take a trip to the ol' www.recalls.gov, download some of the recall posters, if they still have them, and then use Photoshop to...alter them a bit.

I mean, you'd never expect to be electrocuted by a hairbrush...

Make posters for products your family uses, make up posters for real recalls but with ridiculous reasons. Like a baby stroller can unexpectedly tip over in a thunderstorm and explode.

Which is probably on the list anyway. Wal-Mart had a Southern Living magazine recalled because a recipe in it could start grease fires.

Southern Living. Grease fires. Yeah.

When I did product safety work, I used to subscribe to the CPSC's recall e-mail list. I'd probably get 1-3 alerts a day--mostly for baby products.

I think my eyeballs are tired. For some reason I thought the title of this post was "Are my parents related or what?"

The downside is that you won't get to play XBox for a few weeks, but on the upside, your parents aren't related.

If the parents are related, it's generally the child who's retarded.

Being retarded is so cool. You have no responsibilites, you get to pee in a bag, and pretty much anything you do is seen as amazing. Retarded people even get other people to get offended for them. Ahhh, that's the life.

I worked at a mental home many years ago. There was a 16-year old kid at the time I'll call Steve. I was taking Steve to see his doctor in Boulder, CO. We were on the mall and walking past a very nicely put together young lady wearing a very tight camouflage t-shirt. Steve tapped her shoulder and said, "I like your shirt!" in his eager, happy way.

She took quick not of the dull light in his eyes and decided to be nice, "Well, thank..."

But Steve had enough time to consider things deeper by then and he interrupted her. "And your tits are nice too!"

I took his hand, "Come on Steve." He followed along.

She just stood there looking cute with her mouth open.
