Who wants to see the upcoming batman movie? I do because it is suposed to be dark the Batman and Batman Returns were. I hope it doesnt suck like Forever and B&R.

It definitely won't be in the same vein as those last two movies were. Whether or not they succeed in recapturing the quality and atmosphere of the BATMAN:YEAR ONE comics remains to be seen. But I'm optomistic about it.

I was hoping they would be able to mix the plots of Year One and The Killing Joke. It would be nice to see the Joker and Batman origins tied together. It could work by monkeying with the timelines of the stories (lots of build-up from Jack's initial attempt at crime resulting in the death of the Waynes to his ultimate descent into crime and eventual madness while Bruce's story unfolds). In fact it would play real nice if Bats' story was put in the background to an extent, allowing the focus to be on Joker. And then, when everything comes to a head in the chemical factory and you get to see how integral Batman is in Joker's origin, hopefully the poison of those last two movies would wash away.

And it'd make a nice backstory if they ever decide to do The Dark Night.

But somehow I figure none of that will come into play (I haven't gotten to read Year One yet, so I don't know what the exact dynamics are anyway).

But with Nolan at the helm it should be pretty kickin' regardless.

I just hope he can move his neck this time. And what's up with the eyeholes? It IS technically possible to make white, one-way lenses. They did it for Spider-Man and by crap they can do it for Batman. "They" meaning the ten million or so people collectively responsible for making movies. Seeing the eyes makes Batman less grim and brings back visions of those other damned movies.

Also, I hope the movie is good.

Haven't we had this discussion before?

Anyway, my opinion was that from what I've seen, the new Batmobile looks like a dune buggy, and Michael Caine as Alfred is a waste of talent. I am not optimistic - I'll wait until someone else sees it beforem I risk watching it.

But it could not possibly be as bad as the last one that Joel Schumacher directed. That was awful.

A few years back (maybe 10 or 12), Terry Gilliam had agreed to do Watchman but he wanted it to be a miniseries on the BBC. After Baron Munchhousen (sp?)the studio didn't feel so confident in him. Our loss.

I think the new Batman is going to be awesome. Year One was a great read and the cast for this is impecable. Gary Oldman as Jim Gordon? You've got to love it!

Since the script is supposed to be based off the Frank Miller series, it'll take a big schmuck to fuck it up. And, since it's been fucked up since pretty much day one, we're just going to have to wait and see exactly WHICH schmuck involved with the new Batman will be the biggest.

I actually quite liked Batman Returns. But I'm a sucker for Christopher Walken.

I liked Batman returns a lot. And I love Christopher Walken. But I knew Danny DeVito's hammy performance marked the downfall of the Batman franchise.
