No it wasn't. His best role was in the Weapon of Choice video. Which incidentally has just been voted VH1's greatest video of all time.

That video rocked almost as much as Walken himself does.

I am vindicated. I posted that thing somewhere around here as the coolest thing ever filmed anywhere ever. Of course, I wasn't considering It Happened One Night with Clark Gable, but hey.

When boorite posted that video, I watched it about five times. Then I went and downloaded the song from Morpheus. Then I spent a few hours dancing around my house. Then my wife made fun of me and I stopped.

Dark City was sorely underlooked. I saw it the other day, and highly recomend it. It's the only mainstreem movie under surrialism over at AMG that I recognized.

But then again you've all probably already seen this.

Yes, Dark City is excellent. It's like a good version of The Matrix without all the computer geek fanboy wank-fodder.

...and Colin Friels is terribly under-rated in it. He is one of Australia's greatest actors (trapped in never-ending cop show hell for the past five years or so) and his little role, as the man who knew just enough to drive him mad, was brilliant.

My mind is traped into thinking he's a bad guy though, after "Bless the Child" and as Prince Fortinbras in Kenneth whats his name's Hamlet. He is kinda spooky lookin though.

If you want to shatter your delusion of Friels being a typecast bad guy, pick up the late eighties Aussie gem Malcolm, in which he plays a simple-minded young man who is a savant when it comes to invention. It features a mini that splits in half down the middle (actually built and functional for the film). In order to impress his dodgy friends, he uses his genius to help them pull off a robbery by remote control. It's a great role - a naive but brilliant little boy in the body of a man.
