Yeah, they're everywhere over here, it's more of a recent thing, as a kid I would pull their legs off and torture them, but now I can't relax in a room if I know there is one alive somewhere, I have to kill it (by throwing a towel at it from the other side of the room, then running away).
I think it's their random flight patterns that freak me out, we have bats in our loft and they don't bother me because I know they're smart enough to use a radar guidance system, but crane flies are all in your face with their big falling-off-all-the-time legs.
